Fujikawa will play in Canadian Tour event

Advertiser Staff

Moanalua High School junior Tadd Fujikawa was officially added to the field of the inaugural Jane Rogers Championship of Mississauga today.

The full-field Canadian Tour event will be at the Lakeview Golf Course in Mississauga, Ont., Aug. 23 to 26.

Fujikawa turned pro July 12, at age 16. The tournament contacted him four days later offering an exemption. He will be the youngest of 156 golfers playing for the $125,000 purse. The final event of the season, the Canadian Tour Championship, is played the following week in Ontario.

Fujikawa became the youngest ever to qualify for the U.S. Open when he played last year. In January, at the age of 16 years, 4 days, he became the second youngest player ever to make the cut in a PGA Tour event, ultimately finishing in a tie for 20th at the Sony Open in Hawai'i.

A month later, Fujikawa became the first amateur since 1992 to win the Hawai'i Pearl Open, edging Japan tour pro Gregory Meyer on the final hole.

Fujikawa made his pro debut earlier this month at the PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open. He opened with a 78 and shot a second-round 71, birdieing five of his last 10 holes, but missed the cut by five shots.
