Red Cross shelters to stay open tonight

The American Red Cross evacuation shelters will remain open on the Big Island in the following locations:

Ka'u High & Intermediate, Kea'au High School, Pahoa High School, Mountain View Elementary, Waikoloa Elementary, North Kohala State Office Building, Kealakehe High School, Konawaena High School, Waiakea High School, Honoka'a High School, and Waikoloa Elementary.

Red Cross volunteers will be at the shelters all night tonight so that people can come to these locations if needed, a Red Cross news release said.

The shelters may be closed tomorrow morning depending on the situation.

As of noon today, there were 151 people who came to shelters to seek safety from Hurricane Flossie, the news release said.
