Big Island public schools closed tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

All Big Island public schools, the Community School for Adults in Hilo and Kona and all public charter schools will remain closed through tomorrow upon the recommendation of Hawai'i County Civil Defense officials.

The state Department of Education had closed all public schools today as a safety precaution during the approach of Hurricane Flossie.

The decision affects 42 regular public schools, all 12 public charter schools and the Community School for Adults in Hilo and Kona.

The closures affect about 26,000 students.

Meanwhile, Kamehameha Schools announced that all classes and activities (including athletic practices and games) at its Hawai'i Island campus are canceled again for tomorrow due to the hurricane.
