New women's health therapy being performed
Advertiser Staff
Dr. Susan Chapman, an obstetrician/gynecologist with Pali Women's Health Center in Kailua, became one of the first gynecologists in Hawaii to perform a new minimally invasive therapy, called cryogenic therapy, which provides relief to women suffering from menorrhagia (excessive menstrual bleeding).
As many as one in five women suffer from the condition. Until now, many women with menorrhagia eventually received hysterectomies, accounting for as many as 600,000 hysterectomies performed in the U.S. each year.
Cryogenic technology is used to freeze and remove the inner lining of the uterus, the tissue responsible for excessive bleeding, which allows the uterus to be spared, noted Chapman, founder of the Pali Women's Health Center.
