Body clad in wetsuit found in water at Kaaawa

Advertiser Staff

The body of a man wearing a wetsuit was recovered from the water today at Ka'a'awa.

The wetsuit is similar to one a 38-year-old Hawai'i Kai man was wearing Saturday night when he went snorkel diving with friends at Ka'a'awa and was swept out to sea.

The medical examiner's office tonight was working to confirm identity.

Police have classified the case as an unattended death, pending an autopsy today for cause and manner of death.

The witness called police between 7 and 8 a.m. to report a body floating in the area of the 49-800 block of Kamehameha Highway.

A doctor made the pronouncement of death at 8:04 a.m., according to police.

Coast Guard, fire and police had been searching since early Sunday morning for the missing diver.
