Brushfire prompts early release at 2 Leeward schools

Advertiser Staff

Students at Wai'anae High School have been released from classes early and parents of students at Makaha Elementary School are being told that may pick up students early today due to the smoke generated by a huge brushfire in the Waialua area.

The smoke is reportedly blowing over the top of the Wai'anae Mountain Range and settling in Makaha Valley.

The fire, which has already burned more than 3,000 acres, began Sunday afternoon and has yet to be contained.
