Advertiser Staff

Mayor Mufi Hannemann will lead the second annual Mayor's Remembrance Walk on Sept. 9 in observance of the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"The city is again holding this walk to honor the memory of the people who perished in the 9/11 attacks and to recognize the first-responders and members of the armed forces who are protecting our safety and well-being," Hannemann said in a news release.

"This is an occasion for Honolulu to remember the losses we suffered and the acts of heroism summoned the day of the attacks."

The public is invited to participate in the walk, which includes brief ceremonies and wreath presentations at the Honolulu Police Department headquarters and Honolulu Fire Department headquarters, a moment of silence at the Prince Kuhio Federal Building, and the formal program at Honolulu Hale.

Participants should gather by 6:30 p.m. on the front steps of the Honolulu Police Department headquarters, at 801 S. Beretania St. Marchers will proceed makai on Alapai and South streets to the Honolulu Fire Department headquarters on the corner of South and Queen streets.

The procession moves on Halekauwila Street to the Prince Kuhio Federal Building at the corner of Halekauwila and Punchbowl streets, then mauka on Punchbowl to Honolulu Hale.
