Hawaii tourism agency: Forget Flossie, keep on coming

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Visitors Bureau wants travel agents and potential visitors to know that Hurricane Flossie passed the Islands without incident and that it's back to business as usual for the state's resorts and hotels.

"Travelers heading to Hawaii need not worry about altering their travel plans as all airports, airlines, hotels, attractions and businesses are operating normally on all islands," said Marsha Wienert, state tourism liaison, in a news release sent out by the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday.

The statement noted that Flossie's effects were largely contained to the Big Island and consisted of gusty wind, rain and high surf. It also advised travel agents and others that Flossie is no longer a hurricane and that the tropical storm continues to lose strength rapidly.

"I'm pleased to report that it's business as usual today," said George Applegate, executive director of the Big Island Visitors Bureau, in the news release.

"Things have pretty much returned to normal here on Hawaii's Big Island. The state parks and other facilities that were closed as a precaution to Flossie's arrival have reopened."
