Honolulu inflation rate slows to 5% in first half of '07

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu's inflation rate slowed to 4.9 percent during the first half of this year after hitting a 15-year high last year.

The decline was due mostly to a slowdown in price increases for housing, shelter, electricity and gasoline when compared with the first half of last year, according to figures released today by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. The inflation rate for all of 2006 was 5.9 percent.

Economists expect inflation to continue to be moderately slow during the last six months of this year as the economy cools.
