Updated Hawaii Data Book released on Web site

The state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism today said it has released the 39th annual edition of the State of Hawai'i Data Book on the DBEDT web site, http://www.hawaii.gov/dbedt.

The 24-section state publication provides a broad spectrum of information relating to Hawai'i in all areas including demographic, social, and economic data. It is produced by the department's Research and Economic Analysis Division and contains 790 tables.

Some facts from this year's edition include:

  • From 2004 to 2006, statewide residential electricity customers increased by 3.0 percent, while average electricity consumption decreased by 2.2 percent.

  • The fastest growing neighborhood on O'ahu from 2000 to 2005 was the Mililani Mauka-Launani area, with a 45 percent increase in its estimated population.

  • Statewide real property assessment value totaled $255 billion in fiscal year 2007, a 27.8 percent increase from a year earlier.

  • In 2006, the number of mobile wireless telephone subscribers passed the 1 million mark for the first time.
