Police today arrested two men for investigation of kidnapping and trying to extort $20,000 from another man.

The complaint, 59, told police he was waiting at a busstop on Ward Avenue for his wife to pick him up when he was confronted by two men, ages 27 and 19.

One of the men handed complainant civil papers informing him he owed $20,000. The complainant claimed he was threatened by a second man with an electric gun, who demanded he pau all the money and ordered him into a vehicle.

Police arrived at 3:40 p.m. and arrested the two men and recovered an electric gun.

The men were booked for first-degree extortion, kidnapping, first-degree terroristic threatening and possession of an electric gun. Neither man has a prior criminal conviction, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records.
