WAIKIKI
Hokule'a trip topic of lecture

Advertiser Staff

Hokule'a crew member Kimo Hugo will discuss "Spirituality on the Hokule'a: A Transformational Ocean Journey," in a free lecture at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sukyo Mahikari Honolulu Center, in Eaton Square.

Hugo served as the safety chief on the canoe's voyages to Micronesia and Japan.

Hokule'a left O'ahu Jan. 13 to join the canoe Alingano Maisu at Kawaihae on the Big Island, where it was built. The two canoes sailed to Micronesia, where the Alingano Maisu was delivered as a gift of thanks to navigator Mau Piailug on the island of Satawal. Hokule'a went on to a goodwill mission to Japan.
