Police DUI checkpoints start tonight on Oahu

Advertiser Staff

Starting today, police will be posting impaired driver checkpoints around O'ahu and at unannounced times and locations and will continue through the weekend.

As of Aug. 15, 42 people have died on O'ahu's roads in 37 traffic collisions this year, the Honolulu Police Department said. The death toll is 16 less than at the same time last year. Police said speed was a factor in seven accidents this year and seven have been alcohol or drug related.

Today marks the start of Admission Day weekend around the island.
