CFB: UConn suspends 2 football players

Associated Press

STORRS, Conn. — A cousin of late Minnesota Vikings tackle Korey Stringer was among two Connecticut football players indefinitely suspended today for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Freshman linebacker Corey Stringer and sophomore tailback Andre Dixon were suspended by coach Randy Edsall. The school called the matter strictly internal and said there was no police involvement.

Stringer is the nephew of Rutgers women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer. He had been moved from safety to linebacker during camp, and there was a possibility he would be redshirted this season.

Dixon was listed third on the depth chart, but was expected to see time this season behind sophomore Donald Brown and redshirt junior Lou Allen and as a kick returner.

UConn, which went 4-8 a year ago, opens the season Sept. 1 at Duke.
