Debt collection dispute leads to arrest at Ala Moana

Advertiser Staff

A 37-year-old man was arrested tonight for investigation of an alleged purse-snatching from a parked car at Ala Moana Center.

The man allegedly confronted a couple seated in the car at 6:30 p.m. and demanded the passenger, a 59-year-old man, repay a debt owed.

When the man in the car said he didn't have the money, the suspect allegedly reached into the car, took the driver's handbag, kicked and dented the car before fleeing.

The suspect was located by police and arrested for unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle and fourth-degree criminal property damage.

Police declined comment when asked if this incident was related to yesterday's attempted kidnap and extortion of a 59-year-old man at 420 Ward Ave.
