Advertiser Staff

Maui County Ocean Safety personnel today closed Keawekapu Beach on the south side of the island for two hours due to a reported shark sighting.

The beach was closed at about 1:45 p.m. and reopened at 3:30 p.m., according to a county news release.

Ocean Safety personnel said a 10-foot shark was seen feeding on a deer carcass in the area. The beach was reopened after the carcass was removed.
