Advertiser Staff

A strong, shallow earthquake rocked the Solomon Islands late last night, but the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in 'Ewa Beach issued a bulletin saying no tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data.

The 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck at 10:39 p.m. at a depth of less than 100 kilometers.

Earlier yesterday, a 7.9 earthquake was registered near the coast of Peru. No tsunami was generated, but the quake killed hundreds and injured nearly 1,000 others.
