Hawaii judiciary mailing 245,000 juror questionnaires

Advertiser Staff

During the next two weeks, the Hawai'i State Judiciary will mail 245,000 juror questionnaires to 105,000 residents on O'ahu, 50,000 on Maui, 65,000 on the Big Island and 25,000 on Kaua'i.

Those who receive questionnaires must complete and return the questionnaire to the Jury Pool Office. Anyone who fails to respond may face certain penalties allowed by law.

The questionnaires will be used to select people eligible to serve as jurors during 2008. Those who receive questionnaires are randomly selected from driver's license, voter registration and state income tax lists.

To be eligible to serve as a juror, one must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Hawai'i and able to read and understand English.
