Kapolei brushfire 90 percent contained

Advertiser Staff

A brushfire in Kapolei that started at 2:41 p.m. was reported to be 90 percent contained an hour later, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Frank Johnson.

The fire on the 500 block of Kamokila Boulevard has burned about three acres but is not threatening any structures, said Johnson.

Heavy smoke forced the closure of a section of Kamokila Boulevard in the area of the 480 block for a time.

Construction crews working on two different projects helped to fight the fire, which is on a vacant lot owned by the James Campbell Co.

The brush along Kamokila Boulevard between the state office tower and the site of the upcoming judiciary complex was destroyed.

Fifteen firefighters on scene were assisted by crews with two water trucks owned by Delta Construction Co. and one water truck from Paul's Electrical Service. A Delta company front-loader truck also helped clear a path through vegetation for fire trucks, said Jessie Visconde, a foreman for Delta.

Delta is currently working on the Kamokila Boulevard extension project while Paul's Electric is part of the crew putting up the the new courthouse.
