Maui's Arnoult-Ritthaler runner-up in Parapan tennis

Kaitlyn Verfuerth, from California, defeated Maui's Beth Arnoult-Ritthaler, 6-3, 6-1, today at the Parapan American Games' wheelchair tennis event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Verfuerth, ranked No. 23 in the world, was awarded a wildcard to the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. Arnoult-Ritthaler was the top seed in the tournament and ranked No. 16 in the world.

Arnoult-Ritthaler and Verfuerth won doubles gold for the United States yesterday with a 6-2 6-1 victory over Brazil's Samanta Almeida and Rejane Candida.
