China tops U.S. women in World Grand Prix volleyball

The United States women's national volleyball team lost to defending Olympic champion China, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22, in the FIVB World Grand Prix today at Macau, China.

Former University of Hawai'i standout Heather Bown, of Yorba Linda, Calif., a U.S. middle blocker, subbed into the match in the first set and finished with four kills. Starting setter Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, another UH alum, of Honolulu, had 32 assists and a block.

Tayyiba Haneef-Park, of Laguna Hills, Calif., turned in a match-high 17 points on 16 kills and an ace for Team USA. She committed just one hitting error on 25 attempts for a .640 hitting percentage.

The United States (4-3) plays Cuba (4-3) tomorrow.
