U.S. men take volleyball bronze at University Games

Associated Press

BANGKOK, Thailand — Turkey beat Canada 3-1 (25-11, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21) in the men's volleyball gold medal final at the World University Games today. The United States defeated Italy 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-16) at Thammasat University outside Bangkok to take the bronze.

Evan Patak led the American volleyballers with 12 points. Former University of Hawai'i All-American Alfred Reft was the starting libero for the U.S.

"We know we're a really good team, and we could very easily be competing for the gold right now," Patak said. "But getting a medal at these games is great ... and we're proud of it. We had a great run."
