Pearl City wins Jr. Little League 13-14 World Series

Advertiser Staff

Pearl City scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, breaking a 2-all tie and enabling the 13- to 14-year-olds to beat the Philippines, 6-2, today to capture the Junior Little League World Series title.

The 27th annual championship was played at Taylor, Mich.

Kahana Neal pitched a complete-game for Pearl City and got help from Kawika Pruett, who turned in two double plays, including one to end a threat in the seventh and final scheduled inning.

After Neal struck out the lead-off batter, the Philippines got successive hits. But Neal induced a ground ball to Pruett, who touched second and threw to first to complete a game-ending double play.

Pearl City went 6-0 in the tournament.

The game is scheduled to be telecast Wednesday, Aug. 28, on ESPN2. Times may vary but current start time is 8 a.m.

It is the second Little League World Series title for Pearl City in this age group, having won a title in 1984.

Aiea won this age group title in 2000-01.

The 2005 West O'ahu team remains the only Hawai'i team to win the original Little League World Series title in the 11- to 12-year-old age group, which began in 1939 and held its first World Series in 1947.
