6.0 earthquake rattles Loyalty Islands near Australia

Another moderately-strong earthquake has occurred in the Pacific Basin, this time near the Loyalty Islands northeast of Australia.

The earthquake, assigned a preliminary magnitude of 6.0, was recorded at 2:32 a.m. today Hawai'i time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Center.

The quake's epicenter was estimated to be 21.7 miles beneath the earth's surface.

There were no reports of injuries or damage from the quake.
