Baseball: Mets place Easley on 15-day disabled list

WASHINGTON — The New York Mets placed infielder Damion Easley on the 15-day disabled list today with a sprained left ankle and recalled infielder Anderson Hernandez from Triple-A New Orleans.Easley hurt his ankle in the sixth inning of the Mets game with Washington on Saturday advancing to second on a wild pitch. He had X-rays and returned to New York on Sunday. He will have an MRI exam on Monday.
"We'll see how it plays out in the next couple of days. Hopefully, we'll get him back," Mets manager Willie Randolph said. "It's tough because he's had a great year for us."
Easley was batting .280 with 10 home runs and 26 RBIs.
Hernandez is batting .296 with 4 home runs and 40 RBIs with New Orleans. He was with the Mets for a week in July and was 1-for-2 in three games.
"He's swinging the bat well at Triple-A," Randolph said.
Randolph indicated that Hernandez' stay with the Mets might be short: "Who knows? It could be temporary," Randolph said.
