Badminton: China sweeps world championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — China won the men's and women's singles at the World Badminton Championship today.

Top-ranked Lin Dan defeated Sony Dwi Cuncoro of Indonesia 21-11, 22-20 to win his third consecutive men's singles title. Zhu Lin took the women's crown in her debut at the meet, beating Wang Chen of Hong Kong 21-18, 21-12.

China also won the women's doubles. Zhang Jiewen and Yang Wei defeated compatriots Gao Guo Ling and Huang Sui, the defending champions, 21-16, 21-19.

Markis Kido and Hendra Satiawan of Indonesia defeated Jung Jae-sung and Lee Yong-dae of South Korea 21-19, 21-19 in men's doubles.

In mixed doubles, Indonesia's Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir defeated China's Zhen Bo and Guo Lin 21-16, 21-14, for their second world championship title.
