Power fails briefly on part of Big Island
Advertiser Staff
About 1,700 Big Island customers were without power in the South Point to Pahala town this afternoon until the Hawaii Electric Light Co. was able to determine that a utility pole had fallen down and switch the power to other poles. The failure affected the bulk of the customers for about six minutes at 1 p.m. today, but about 50 people were without power for several hours.
The customers lost power because a utility pole on Mamalahoa Highway near Pahala town had fallen down in gusty winds, officials said.
