CFB: ASU transfer wins starting Nebraska QB job

Associated Press

LINCOLN, Neb. — Sam Keller will start at quarterback for Nebraska in the season opener against Nevada on September 1.

Keller, who transferred from Arizona State last year, had been competing with two-year backup Joe Ganz. Coach Bill Callahan announced the decision to go with Keller today.

Keller emerged at the end of the 2004 season, when he was MVP of the Sun Bowl after leaving Arizona State to a come-from-behind victory over Purdue. In 2005, he threw for 2,165 yards and 20 touchdowns in the first seven games before a season-ending hand injury.

Last season, Keller was named the Sun Devils' starter in preseason practice, but coach Dirk Koetter changed his mind and went with Rudy Carpenter, which led to Keller transferring.

Keller sat out last season as required by NCAA rules.
