Criminal counts mounting against Halawa inmate

Advertiser Staff

A man being investigated for bank robbery who had his parole revoked recently was arrested today at the Halawa Correctional Facility for four offenses related to identity theft.

Kevin Casey Smith, 41, was arrested at the prison at 9:15 a.m. for second-degree forgery, theft and identity theft, and unauthorized possession of confidential information.

He was identified as a suspect for the Aug. 3 robbery of Bank of Hawaii's Pearlridge branch in a Honolulu CrimeStoppers bulletin released three days after the robbery.

Smith was arrested Aug. 11 after police found him hiding in a Waikiki hotel room.

Police said today that federal bank robbery charges are still pending against Smith.

Smith, who has 23 prior convictions, is also facing burglary charges for breaking into the hotel room where he was captured.
