Man gets 20 years for kidnapping Honolulu teen

Advertiser Staff

A man accused of luring a teenage girl into a delivery van, injecting her with crystal methamphetamine and repeatedly sexually assaulting her was sentenced today to 20 years in prison.

Anton Myklebust II pleaded guilty on Nov. 29, 2006, to kidnapping and other charges but insisted he never raped the 17-year-old girl. As part of his plea agreement, Myklebust agreed to register as a sex offender.

However, he recently filed a motion to withdrew his guilty plea because of the sex offender registry requirement but the motion was denied yesterday by Circuit Judge Karl Sakamoto before sentencing.

According to the agreement, Myklebust must serve at least six years and eight months in prison.

The Hawai'i Paroling Authority will meet in about three months to determine when Myklebust can be eligible for parole after he serves six years and eight months.

"This was a horrific case, one of the most heinous cases I have ever seen in 19 years of prosecuting sex assaults," said deputy prosecutor Thalia Murphy.

Myklebust, who was being held at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center pending sentencing, will be transferred to the Halawa Correctional Facility.

Myklebust was a driver for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu when he lured the girl into the van by asking her for directions to School Street. He held her captive for eight hours.
