Four stranded hikers rescued in Pupukea

Advertiser Staff Writer

Honolulu Fire Department rescue specialists tonight brought out four stranded hikers by helicopter in Pupukea.

The man and three women were not injured. All are visiting Hawai'i. They were rescued at 9:45 p.m.

HFD spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said the foursome started their hike late in the day and did not know how far in they had gone. They were stranded by darkness, according to Seelig, but had a cellular phone to call for help.

Rescue 2 along with a company from Sunset Beach and the department's helicopter responded to Pupukea at 7:50 p.m.
