Ticket sales for Aerosmith's Maui show may set record

The Maui News

WAILUKU — About a dozen people camped out to be among the first in line Monday to buy tickets for front-and-center seats for the Sept. 26 Aerosmith concert at War Memorial Stadium.

Then, before the Maui Arts & Cultural Center ticket offices opened at 10 a.m., they were joined by many, many others.

"There were a lot of really happy people holding their tickets on Monday morning," Art Vento, MACC executive vice president and general manager, told The Maui News.

He described ticket sales as "extremely brisk" and predicted Aerosmith would set a new MACC box office single-day sales record, beating the previous record held by the Eagles in December 2005.

"There was a feverish pitch for Eagles sales," he recalled. "Aerosmith is soaring beyond that."

Vento cautioned people thinking about getting tickets not to procrastinate.

"I wouldn't wait too long before you make your decision about coming down to buy tickets," he said.

The group with roots in the1970s is a member of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. Originally known as "the bad boys of rock" from Boston, the band is made up of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer. Its hit singles include "Sweet Emotion," "Dream On," "Walk This Way," "Rag Doll," "Love in an Elevator," "Cryin' " and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing."

Tickets for center seating sections cost $125. Seats in angled wings are going for $85, and bleacher seats are for sale for $65. Through Wednesday, tickets are available only for MACC members. Tickets for the general public go on sale Thursday morning.

Vento said people can become MACC members and purchase tickets in advance for the Aerosmith concert. A $40 membership allows a member to buy two tickets, followed by a $110 membership up to four tickets; $275, six tickets; and $550, eight tickets.

Most of the membership dues are tax deductible. Membership fees pay for arts programs at the center. Taxes and service fees are added to ticket purchases both for center members and for the general public.

Tickets also may be purchased by phone by calling 242-7469.

War Memorial will have a seating capacity of about 10,000 for the Aerosmith concert.
