NFL: Bucs rookie OL carted off field after injuring ankle

Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Bay rookie offensive lineman Arron Sears was carted off the field after spraining his right ankle during practice today.

The second-round draft pick, who started the Buccaneers' first two preseason games at left guard, was injured during a pass protection drill. The results of X-rays weren't available, and coach Jon Gruden said he was awaiting word about the severity of the sprain.

"I don't want to speculate and sound too negative. ... There's a good chance he'll be OK," Gruden said.

Anthony Davis moved from left tackle to guard after Sears left practice. Gruden would not say who would replace Sears if the rookie from Tennessee is unable to play in Saturday's preseason game at Miami.

"We'll make those decisions if and when we have to," Gruden said. "I'm not going to speculate until I find out exactly what's wrong."

Davis was the starter at left tackle last season, but also has been working out at guard during training camp.

"It hasn't been hard at all," Davis said of the transition. "I just want to do whatever I can to help this team win."
