ALL'S WELL: Eddie Sherman, the retired three-dot columnist and author, is up and about after a 10-hour surgery to remove a brain tumor at Straub Hospital. "Happy to say all is well — and (I'm) on the road to recovery," Sherman said. He's lucky the tumor was not malignant and he calls his doctor, Mark Gerber, "just brilliant." The procedure could have impeded his speech, but happily, he's talking up a storm. With help and care from his wife, Patty, Sherman promises, "I'll be back on my business merry-go-round," which includes the launch of bottled water from deep-sea sources off Hawai'i. Amazingly, while he sports a large C-shaped scar on the left side of his head, his hair loss was minimal and he looks fit as a fiddle. ...

Maybe it was the pre-operation steak he had at Ruth's Chris Steak House at Restaurant Row, with pals like Lisa Josephsohn, that bolstered his swift recovery. P.R. pro Josephsohn, also on the mend from cancer surgery, has lost more than 20 pounds and has donned wigs and hats as her chemo treatments continue. But she's back to work, albeit on a modified schedule. ...

NAME-DROPPING: Lovely Kwock, an employee at Kuhio Elementary School, had a conference in Provo, Utah, last week, but vowed to return home last Thursday to pay homage to Elvis Presley on the 30th anniversary Thursday. He's been her idol since teenhood, so she rushed to his statue at Blaisdell Center. "I was 5 minutes late; I arrived at Blaisdell at 12:05 a.m. (Friday)," she said. "But I did bring a lei — and take pictures." ...

That's Robert Cazimero singing (briefly) on the commercials for the Hawaii Superferry, which will launch Aug. 28. ...

And Robert had yet another breakfast — and a lunch together — with his pal, the riotous Rip Taylor. The confetti kingpin also finally made it to his favorite dining spot, Keo Sananikone's Keo's in Waikiki, for his meekrob, cashew chicken and spring roll fix. ...

CURTAIN CALLS: Actor George Segal, who completed a brief run in Joe Moore's "Prophecy and Honor" play at the Hawai'i Theatre, discovered he nearly crossed paths earlier in his career with director Glenn Cannon. It turns out that Segal was cast in a 1950s production of "The Iceman Cometh" at the Circle in the Square Theatre in New York, but gave up the role only to be followed by Cannon, who he never met. "Theater has its own 'small world' circumstances," Cannon said. ...

When Paliku Theatre's "Pajama Game" opens Friday, among the first-nighters will be Joy Abbott, the widow of the show's book co-author, George Abbott. Joy Abbot will likely have Davis Gaines, her colleague from Broadway who is a longtime "Phantom of the Opera" star, in tow. (You may not recognize Gaines without the mask.) Abbott and Gaines will do a joint concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Hawai'i Theatre, in a fundraiser for the Hawai'i Performing Arts Foundation. "Pajama" was the first show Ronald Bright directed years ago. ...

TRADE WINDS: Remember when Jackie Chan, now starring in "Rush Hour 3" with Chris Tucker, opined that his next "Rush Hour" would be filmed in the Islands? He wasn't lying. Director Brett Ratner relocated the site to Paris because Tucker didn't want to film on his own native continent. "The first draw was Hawai'i," Chan said, in a news service report. But Tucker refused ("We're in America," he said), suggesting Bangkok. "I'm an Asian boy, so Bangkok, no," Chan said. Then Ratner suggested Paris and the pair agreed. Now you know. ...

When Douglas Himmelfarb, arts patron and horticulturist, hosted 26 guests at the Marks Estate, the six-course, sit-down dinner was prepared by Bistro catering exec Rodney Uyehara. Guests included Indru and Gulab Watumull, Donna Howard, Mary Lou and Peter Lewis, Gunnar and Susie Schull, Marion Philpotts-Miller and Jeffrey Miller, Cecilia Blackfield and Frank and Lynn Sekiya. ...
