Search enters 3rd day for missing kayaker off Lanai

Advertiser Staff

The U.S. Coast Guard continued the overnight search for a Lana'i man who has been missing since Sunday morning.

David Lorenz, 39, left Kaumalapau Harbor on Lana'i at 8:30 a.m. Sunday for a kayak outing with a friend and never returned. Yesterday, the Coast Guard rescued Lorenz's friend about 25 miles from the harbor and found Lorenz's unoccupied kayak about two miles south of where the first kayaker was spotted.

Lorenz is described as 5 foot 8, 160 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on him is asked to call the Maui Police Department at 808-244-6400 or the Lana'i police station at 808-565-6428.
