"This is a tragic day for the state of Hawai'i and our nation as we mourn the loss of nine Schofield soldiers who were a special part of our Hawai'i 'ohana.

"These soldiers were true patriots, who were committed to defending freedom here at home and around the world, and helping the Iraqi people build a new democracy.
