Man pulled from burning car in Kalihi Kai dies

By Rod Ohira
Advertiser Staff Writer

Police do not suspect foul play in the death of a man who was pulled from a burning car today in Kalihi Kai.

The case is classified as an unattended death pending autopsy findings on cause and manner of death, police said. The Honolulu medical examiner's office had no information to release on the case this afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the auto fire at 6:23 a.m.

The victim, 50, was asleep in a car that was parked at Kaliawa and Pu'uhale streets. Police believe a mechanical problem with the car's fuel line and air conditioning system, which was turned on, started the fire.

The victim was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he died at 7:32 a.m.
