Thirtyninehotel announces night events for next week

Thirtyninehotel gallery and multimedia space has announced its evening line-up of events for Aug. 28 through Sept. 1.

The schedule includes the following:

Tues., Aug. 28

New Jass Quartet

Led by drummer Justin James and tenor sax player Ryan Kunimura, the quartet and guests are players of jazz and sophisticated funk. Using elements of traditional jazz, Newjass has its way with jazz classics, sexy R&B grooves and heavy dance floor funk.

From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Cover is $5.

Wednesday, Aug. 29

The Rising Melody

A weekly singer-songwriter forum ded by songwriter/singer/guitarist Bret Shimabukuro, Rising Melody is an event for burgeoning singer-songwriters. A rotating line-up of weekly guests is also featured.

From 8 p.m. to midnight. Cover is $5.

Thursday, Aug. 30

Espiritu Libre

This night blending Latin music genres is led by Espiritu Libre, self-described as "a local band with a world view." The group's sets feature everything from salsa to samba to Latin jazz and Caribbean beats.

From 9 p.m. to midnight. Cover is $7.

Friday, August 31

Soul Clap

DJ Eskae and Nocturnal Sound Crew hold it down with their "anything goes" post-hip-hop party. Their deep crates of vinyl and CDs boast everything from classic hip-hop to nouveau R&B to the theme from "The Jeffersons."

From 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Cover is $7.

Sept. 1

Garden Bar music

Thirtyninehotel's outdoor Garden Bar stays open until 2 a.m. spinning "yacht rock" classics (Michael McDonald, Loggins and Messina, Steely Dan, etc.), a bit of Led Zeppelin and its ilk, and "hotel disco" gems.
