Rock concert benefits Peruvian youth Sept. 1

Advertiser Staff

Perudonations.org was born after Windward O'ahu residents Sherrill and Lisa Sturm traveled to the Andean city of Huancayo in 2006. The mother and daughter spent a week teaching at the Aldea el Rosario orphanage, and encountered Presli Ordaya, an 11-year-old boy who had suffered severe facial burns. Perudonations was formed to help Presli; the organization is now also coming to the aid of 15-year-old Merardo Alvarado, who has a rare skin disorder.

The organization is holding its second benefit concert, "Dock Sessions: One Life at a Time," on Saturday at Don Ho's Island Grill at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Local bands Grand Theft Audio, Pimpbot, Max Murdoch, and Missing Dave are in the lineup. Capoeira Besouro with Mestre Kinha will perform, and KTUH's Mano Lopez will spin Latin jams between sets. At the show, Pass Out Records will debut its compilation album, and The 808 Scene Zine celebrates the one-year anniversary of its The Dock Sessions series.

There will be door prizes and a raffle featuring gift certificates from 808 Tattoo and The 808 Scene Zine's local music gift basket of CDs and T-shirts. And Peruvian silver jewelry will be on sale.

Tickets are $10 at the door, $9 pre-sale at www.MusicMatchBox.net.

All of the proceeds of "One Life at a Time" will go directly to Ordaya and Alvarado.
