Fujikawa 4 over after first round of Canadian event

Advertiser Staff

Tadd Fujikawa, Hawai'i's young golf professional, shot a 4-over-par 74 in the first round today at the Canadian Tour's Jane Rogers Championship of Mississauga in Mississauga, Ontario. He is tied for 122nd in the 156-player field.

"My round was OK. I was hitting the ball well, my chipping was really good," Fujikawa said. "I just couldn't putt. Oh... I couldn't make anything today. I swear I had 40 putts."

Fujikawa was 4 over through his first nine holes and played even-par on the back nine. He sank a five-foot birdie putt at the 15th hole and two-putted for a birdie at the par-5 16th hole to go along with six bogeys.

Fujikawa, a 16-year-old Moanalua High student, is playing in his second tournament as a professional. He failed to make the cut at the PGA Tour's Reno-Tahoe Open earlier this month.

Brad Heaven and George Bradford are the leaders in Mississauga after shooting 64s.
