John Lynch defeated Kirk Nelson, 4 and 2, yesterday to successfully defend his title at the Aloha Section PGA's Turtle Bay Golf Match Play Championship at the resort's Arnold Palmer Course.

Nelson, of Makena Golf Club, briefly held the lead after a birdie on No. 1, but Lynch took a 1-up lead at the turn with pars on No. 5 and No. 7. Lynch, of GolfTEC Honolulu, then birdied Nos. 11, 15 and 16 to close out the match.

In the senior division, Ron Kiaaina Jr. of Makaha Resort beat Mike Iyoki of U.S. Army Golf Courses, 1-up, on the 20th hole.

Iyoki won five of the first nine holes to Kiaaina's one to take a 3-up lead at the turn. Kiaaina won four holes to Iyoki's one on the back nine to tie the match, then won it with par on the 20th hole.
