CFB: Boise State picks senior Tharp as starting QB

Associated Press

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State coach Chris Petersen announced late tonight that Taylor Tharp will be the starting quarterback in the Broncos' season opener against Weber State on Thursday.

The senior beat out junior Bush Hamdan and sophomore Nick Lomax to get the job.

In two seasons as a backup, Tharp completed 32 of 47 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns.

Last year, backing up Jared Zabransky, he saw limited action in a mop-up role. That season the Broncos went 13-0, won the Fiesta Bowl and finished No. 5 in the final Associated Press poll.

The Broncos enter this season ranked No. 24.

Tharp was listed as the starting quarterback when the school released its chart for the Weber State game at Bronco Stadium.
