Diamond Head Theatre offers two new classes

Advertiser Staff

Diamond Head Theatre, which offers a year-round performing arts program, has added two new classes: Scene Shop Basics and Let's Move Through Cancer, a dance class.

Scene Shop Basics is taught by DHT's Technical Director Willie Sabel. Sabel relocated from Wisconsin in 2006 and already has many local design credits and a recent Po'okela Award. He will be teaching the necessary skills to build a set, by working on an actual set for a DHT production.

The Let's Move Through Cancer dance class is taught by Tracey Villiger, a trained dancer. Villiger has also taught Musical Theater and has performed in regional equity theatres.

In addition to its acting, singing and dancing classes for children, teens and adults, DHT continues to offer specialty classes for home-schoolers and autistic children. The home school program, started in 2002, has provided home-schoolers socialization opportunities in addition to classes in acting, singing and dancing. Another special offering, by noted instructor and theatre director, Bill Ogilvie, is the class in Creative Drama, for children with high-function Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. Ogilive has taught similar classes for several years at local high schools. Using theater exercises, games, skits, puppets, music improvisation and short plays, the classes allow these children to acquire the tools to learn how to express themselves, understand others and become better adjusted to the world at large.

"We are excited to be adding variety to our education program," says Kelly Moulson, DHT's Director of Education. "And we are pleased with the success of our Season Rates and will again offer a 20% savings when signing up for a full year of classes."

The DHT performing arts program fall session begins on September 10, 2007; class start dates vary. Enrollment is currently open for all levels. For further information, visit our website: wwwdiamondheadtheatre.com or call 733-0277 x306.
