Big Isle, Oahu stores cited for tobacco sales to minors

About one-third of the Big Island stores inspected for sales of cigarettes to minors were cited by the Department of Health in July.The department said about 25 police citations were issued during the month for sales of tobacco to people under age 18. Four of these were located on O'ahu, while the remainder were on the Big Island.
Inspectors checked about 60 Big Island stores, with 21 failing the test. Overall 105 stores on the Big Island and O'ahu passed the review. Stores receiving the citations face fines ranging between $500 and $2,000.
