Guests who gathered at a fundraiser Saturday night recognizing the 10th anniversary of Tau Dance Theater were treated to a show of Fendi's fall and winter fashions. Flown straight to Honolulu from New York, the clothes were nothing short of fabulous.

Karl Lagerfeld for Fendi has taken the essential fall trends and tweaked them to create unforgettable fashion statements. Among the most prominent looks were a cinched-in waist, full skirt, big bold sleeves and layering of both lines and textures. While fall at Fendi inevitably means fur and leather, these looks were not strictly about inclement climes; rather, they were about urban attitudes.

Some of the sophisticated shapes are reminiscent of contemporary Italian architecture, with unexpected lines intersecting with luxe textures. Big bell sleeves in harlequin-patched, jewel-toned fur and oversized collars were paired with sleek skirts that skimmed the body.

Belts are clearly Fendi's signature accessory for the season. Replacing the house's now iconic B belt, cartridge belts offered an unexpected military counterpoint to the softness of chinchilla and sable. Belts with the biggest faux jewel buckles ever made a style statement over slender skirts and sexy furs.

An audience favorite (perhaps because we can easily wear it in Honolulu) was a lithe leather skirt with several rows of shirring at the back, just above the hem. It's a little bit '40s and a little bit rock 'n' roll. And, oh yeah, very Karl Lagerfeld.

LE BUNGALOW BY MISFORTUNE

After three successful years with her first boutique, MisFortune, in Ward Centre, Natasha Briley, 31, of the North Shore, has added a second boutique, called Le Bungalow, in Ala Moana Center. She refers to the tiny space as "a girl's dream closet." The shop on the first floor, across from ArtLines, opened Sunday.

At the Ward Centre location, Briley has developed a strong local clientele. She sees Ala Moana as a good way to tap into the visitor market while also reaching local customers. The new boutique, she said, will carry more exclusive lines, at a higher price point, for a more sophisticated customer. Ward will maintain its identity as a youthful, trendy boutique.

In the merchandise mix at le Bungalow is clothing by Yumi Kim, Orion London, Lewis Cho, Harkham and Bellekat; jewelry by Pixie Dust, Honolulu's Alliway and Kenneth Jay Lane, and swimwear by Melia Conrad, an up-and-coming Honolulu designer.

HARRY WINSTON PREVIEW

In celebration of its second anniversary in Honolulu, the House of Harry Winston is premiering a special collection of rare jewels. It's an opportunity to see an exquisite collection up close and personal in the Ala Moana store.

The suite of five pieces, called Vine Collection, is inspired by champagne grapes still on the vine.

Among other rare jewels on display are a 15-carat diamond solitaire, pink and blue diamond rings, and emerald and ruby suites.
