OHA to celebrate acquisition of Big Island rainforest

Advertiser Staff

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs, the state Department of Land and Natural resources and The Trust for Public Land will hold a dedication ceremony and celebration of Wao Kele O Puna from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27.

Shuttle service to the forest site will be provided from noon to 1:30 p.m. from the Pahoa Neighborhood Facility. Due to limited access, no private vehicles will be allowed at the forest site.

The dedication will celebrate the Office of Hawaiian Affairs' acquisition of the 25,856 rainforest, marking the first time that ceded lands have been returned to an organization representing the Hawaiian people.
