Repair funds released for Mililani, Liliha libraries

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle has released $227,500 for repairs at the Liliha and Mililani public libraries.

"Reading is a catalyst for the development of students' learning. It's a proven fact that those who read on a consistent basis do better in all aspects of their schooling and in their future careers," Lingle said. "With this in mind, my administration continues to support ongoing safety and environmental improvements at libraries statewide."

At Liliha Public Library, $155,500 will be used to replace the carpet with carpet tiles to eliminate buckling and tearing, which currently poses a safety hazard. Last year, $84,300 was released for the carpet replacement. Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2008 and be completed in July 2008.

At Mililani Public Library, $72,000 will be used to replace a 24-year-old air-conditioning system and to perform additional renovations to improve indoor air quality. In 2006, $607,000 for this project was released. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2007 and be completed in March 2008.
