Baseball: Yankees' Jeter out of lineup with sore knee

Associated Press

DETROIT — Derek Jeter had a sore right knee was not in the starting lineup today for the New York Yankees' game against the Detroit Tigers.

"He's just beat up right now," manager Joe Torre said. "I talked to him yesterday and said it was best for him to have a day off."

Jeter injured the knee during New York's previous series at the Los Angeles Angels. Torre said he didn't believe it was serious, but added he wasn't sure if Jeter would miss more than Sunday's game.

Jeter, who is hitting .320, had played in all but two of New York's 129 games.

Yankees starter Roger Clemens, who developed a blister on his foot during Friday night's 9-6 loss to Detroit, said that the problem will not cause him to miss his next scheduled start.
