Aiea, Campbell will forfeit next league football games

The 'Aiea and Campbell High School football teams will play their scheduled interleague games this weekend against Saint Louis and Kamehameha, respectively, but they will forfeit their league games next week as a result of Saturday's benches-clearing brawl.

The O'ahu Interscholastic Association's football committee, citing league bylaws, determined this morning that players who are ejected from a game must sit out the next OIA game. 'Aiea was scheduled to play at Kapolei next week and Campbell was set to play at Wai'anae.

Instead, 'Aiea and Campbell each will be charged with an OIA Western Division loss and Kapolei and Wai'anae each will be awarded a victory.

Review of game film was inconclusive as far as the exact number of players who left both sidelines Saturday at 'Aiea to join the on-field fight, which ended the game with 57.3 seconds remaining. But OIA executive director Dwight Toyama said that judging by the amount of players who were on the field, basically the entire squad from both sides is presumed to have left the bench.

Under OIA and National Federation of State High School Associations rules, any player entering the field from the sidelines during an on-field altercation is automatically ejected.

And under OIA rules, any player ejected from a game also becomes ineligible for the next league game.

Also this morning, the OIA football committee ruled that the score from Saturday's game, which had 'Aiea leading 33-26, will stand.
