CFB: Graziano named Nevada starting quarterback

Associated Press

RENO, Nev. — Nick Graziano will take the lead as starting quarterback when the Nevada football team opens its season Saturday at Nebraska.

Head coach Chris Ault said the 6-foot-1, 220 pound sophomore has earned the start, but added that redshirt freshman Colin Kaepernick will also see some playing time.

"Kap is going to play in situational opportunities, whatever that might be," Ault told the Reno Gazette-Journal after yesterday's practice. "I don't know what those are today, but he is going to play.

"But Graz is the starter and he's earned it," the coach said.

Graziano, from Moraga, Calif., is the only quarterback on the Wolf Pack roster with college experience. He backed up three-year starter Jeff Rowe last season, and in limited playing time completed nine of 17 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown.

The 6-6, 215-pound Kaepernick, from Turlock, Calif., was the scout team quarterback last season.

"They're young, they're inexperienced, but they're going to be fun and they're going to do some things," Ault said.

Nevada also has three true freshmen quarterbacks, Luke Collis, Pete Murdaca and Ryan Howard. Collis is listed as the third-string quarterback.
